VININGS JUBILEE - A collection of fashionable boutiques, exciting restaurants and one-of-a-kind specialty stores nestled in the lush and historic Vinings Village just minutes away from Downtown Atlanta.
Vinings Jubilee is not your typical shopping center. A family-owned centerpiece at the heart of the historic Vinings community, just miles away from the sprawl of downtown Atlanta, but miles away in attitude and demeanor, with a history all it’s own.
In the early 1800’s entrepreneur Hardy Pace settled along the banks of the Chattahoochee River amassing more than 10,000 acres in the verdant hills northwest of Atlanta. By the mid-1900s, much of the property had passed to his heirs, and in the late 1960s, Hardy Pace’s great-great-granddaughter, Earle Carter Smith, put one tract of land in the heart of the historic Vinings up for sale and Felix Cochran, a local real-estate developer – and a local to Vinings – stepped in to buy the land. Felix’s vision was to build a gathering place – a “town center” – that would feature turn-of-the-century architecture celebrating the community’s colorful past.
To ensure a degree of historic continuity, local architects studied the style of the historic homes still standing in Vinings and designed the shops and restaurants in Vinings Jubilee in the same style and spirit. A collection of separate, distinct buildings – some shingled, some with siding, others bricked – helped bring the Vinings area’s 19th century charm to life. Street lanterns were added for another touch of nostalgia, and a soaring clock tower was erected to serve as the symbolic and geographic heart of the new Vinings Village. The name ‘Vinings Jubilee’ came from the wish to show that the community was celebrating Vinings as a whole.
In October 1986, Felix Cochran dedicated Vinings Jubilee to the community of Vinings in tribute to its history. In the 25 years since the dedication, Vinings Jubilee has doubled in size, but continues to be a great connective force – a true centerpiece – where citizens come together to visit their favorite neighborhood merchants and to shop, dine, relax and celebrate the unique magic that is Vinings.
